The Kencana mine is one of the largest gold mines in Indonesia and in the world.[1] The mine is located in the east of the country in North Maluku.[1] The mine has estimated reserves of 4.63 million oz of gold and 6 million oz of silver.[1]

Underground development of the Kencana mine commenced in February 2005 and the first underground ore was mined in March 2006.[1]
